The present work aims to reconstruct the political events of Guatemala from 1944 to 1970. In particular, the research is driven by the alternation between dramatic internal events (the “October Revolution”; the CIA coup) and enigmatic issues on the foreign front (geopolitical disputes; the X Conference of the OAS). To provide a comparative interpretation of the events, the writing is structured according to a dual perspective. Firstly, the focus is on the American hemisphere to analyze the change in relations with Washington due to Operation “PBSUCCESS”. Secondly, by delimiting the scope of the study to Central America, the path taken towards the “Organization of Central American States” and the “Central American Common Market” has been analyzed.

Abstract
The present work aims to reconstruct the political events of Guatemala from 1944 to 1970. In particular, the research is driven by the alternation between dramatic internal events (the “October Revolution”; the CIA coup) and enigmatic issues on the foreign front (geopolitical disputes; the X Conference of the OAS). To provide a comparative interpretation of the events, the writing is structured according to a dual perspective. Firstly, the focus is on the American hemisphere to analyze the change in relations with Washington due to Operation “PBSUCCESS”. Secondly, by delimiting the scope of the study to Central America, the path taken towards the “Organization of Central American States” and the “Central American Common Market” has been analyzed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
