This chapter aims to provide a clear and comprehensive picture of the importance of innovation in the renewable energy sector and the role of their deployment to ensure climate change mitigation and sustainable growth. The authors will start from the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) and then examine the metabolism of current societies, focusing on the trend of the diffusion of technological innovation and its contribution to the energy transition.

Abstract
