In the past, the view according to which the limits of human lives can be questioned had often been advocated by people on the basis of religious dogmas concerning the soul's immortality; today, curiously, many endorse the same view on the basis of a scientific conception of Life which posits that Life can be abstracted away from any particular medium. The implication is that Life and embodied living entities can be distinguished, for Life is actually something more than the living body. The aura of Life that thus appears, surrounding the living body and exceeding its limits, is what I call "a life" – an idea that can take various shapes and finds today a particularly striking illustration in the thought of some transhumanist thinkers

Abstract
In the past, the view according to which the limits of human lives can be questioned had often been advocated by people on the basis of religious dogmas concerning the soul's immortality; today, curiously, many endorse the same view on the basis of a scientific conception of Life which posits that Life can be abstracted away from any particular medium. The implication is that Life and embodied living entities can be distinguished, for Life is actually something more than the living body. The aura of Life that thus appears, surrounding the living body and exceeding its limits, is what I call "a life" – an idea that can take various shapes and finds today a particularly striking illustration in the thought of some transhumanist thinkersI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
