This work is the first part of a study of a play, La esclava de su hijo, whose attribution to Lope de Vega has never been ratified since Morley and Bruerton (1968: 461) raised doubts based on the observation of its metrical structure. Abstract

This work is the first part of a study of a play, La esclava de su hijo, whose attribution to Lope de Vega has never been ratified since Morley and Bruerton (1968: 461) raised doubts based on the observation of its metrical structure. However, a careful examination of the only copy of the text ―a 17th century manuscript preserved in the Biblioteca Palatina in Parma, which had not been analysed in depth until now― allows to detect some unknown loci that unquestionably support the attribution to Lope.
