The article examines whether Severinus Boethius believes it is possible to rationally investigate God, and in particular the relationship between unity and multiplicity that exists within Him, through the tools of rationality, and therefore in particular logic. By analysing passages from the two theological treatises “Utrum Pater et Filius et Spiritus Sanctus de divinitate substantialiter praedicentur” and “De Trinitate”, it is verified that Aristotelian logical categories are at least partially applicable to the Christian God. Understanding cannot be complete, but the intrinsic limits of rationality cannot be a deterrent to an inquiry that reaches as far as man can stretch towards the Creator.

Abstract
The article examines whether Severinus Boethius believes it is possible to rationally investigate God, and in particular the relationship between unity and multiplicity that exists within Him, through the tools of rationality, and therefore in particular logic. By analysing passages from the two theological treatises “Utrum Pater et Filius et Spiritus Sanctus de divinitate substantialiter praedicentur” and “De Trinitate”, it is verified that Aristotelian logical categories are at least partially applicable to the Christian God. Understanding cannot be complete, but the intrinsic limits of rationality cannot be a deterrent to an inquiry that reaches as far as man can stretch towards the Creator.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
