The project arose from the need to update the commentary on the XI book of the Thebaid, edited by Paola Venini in 1970, in the light of the new trends of Statian studies. The section of the book (vv. 315-579) has a peculiarity that would justify the selection, because it consists of five independent scenes, a climax that prepares the last one: the duel between Eteocles and Polynices. In the main part of the work there are the information required in traditional commentary, according to the most recent settings; on the other hand, the introduction analyzes individual scenes more widely, in relation to the problems of the poem and the greek-latin tradition. Abstract
