This work consist of a comprehensive analysis of the archaic Greek epic poem known as Cypria. The first part contains a critical edition of the fragments transmitted by the indirect tradition into the original wording and a general analysis of the dialect; it also contains a philological, literary and stylistic commentary and an examination of the formulas and metrics. The second part of the dissertation is centred on the contents. After a general analysis of its structure and narrative, the author tries to reconstruct the main sections of the poem, dwelling on some epic motifs and themes and on some characteristics of oral composition. In the appendix the author identifies an oral motif featured in the Cypria which may shed light on some passages of the Iliad. [edited by Author]
