The research analyses the role attributed to the public sector manager examining the various phases of the reforms, finally analyzing the managerial figure in the Italian Law 124/2015, which is the most recent regulatory intervention to modernize the Italian Public Administration. The research focuses on the manager-executive role, highlighting the link between performance evaluation systems and productivity incentive mechanisms, and examining the implications in terms of responsibility of failure to achieve results. The study aims to underline how the category of public sector managers can really contribute to the improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of public administration. [edited by Author]
