The nineteenth-century collection of the Marquis of Salamanca, preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Madrid, consists of numerous findings from Poseidonia-Paestum in the second half of the nineteenth century, including the great crater of Assteas depicting the madness of Heracles and the Roman sculptures of Livia and Tiberius. A high quantity of vascular items produced in Paestum, kept mostly in the Museum’s storage, is equally important to the point of constituting a real corpus of pottery. It was only partially divulged to the scientific community and almost completely unknown to the general public. The research has allowed to determine the actual role played by J. de Salamanca in the excavation activities conducted in Poseidonia-Paestum and to integrate the identification of antiquities of Paestum. The study of the materials preserved in Madrid was carried out on the basis of recent scientific findings that have allowed to determine a better chronological scan and a greater stylistic-formal definition of Paestan pottery, class on which the study was focused, promoting a new form of fruition and enhancement through the Multimedia Book and some three-dimensional models. Abstract
