This contribution advocates for an innovative didactics whose aim is to connect different subfields of linguistics with the domain of teaching German as a foreign language (DaF). In the theoretical section, the linguistic subfields of discourse linguistics, political linguistics, and corpus linguistics are briefly outlined in order to highlight potential links to DaF didactics. The practice-oriented section presents a didactic proposal on the topic of “war discourses”, using as an example the war diary Anfang des Krieges. Tagebücher aus Kyjiw (2022) by the Ukrainian writer and artist Yevgenia Belorusets, which is intended to illustrate the implementation of the theoretical model previously outlined.
