The article shows why Kant’s doctrine of schematism is fundamental for understanding Plessner’s book The Unity of the Senses. Schematism is not only an exegetical key, but also makes it possible to recast Plessner’s aesthesiological research programme as a naturalised philosophy of symbolic forms. The philosophy of symbolic forms, which is a cornerstone for any philosophical approach to culture, thus acquires a material basis and extends to all human behaviour. Culture is constituted by behavioural patterns and pragmatic-semiotic codes, which in turn are elaborations of certain sensory affordances. Sensual-material patterns and physical-technical performances correlate, and both help to understand our embodied thinking.

Abstract
Sensual-material patterns and physical-technical performances correlate, and both help to understand our embodied thinking.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
