A Case Study of a Cosplayer: Considering Cosplaying as a Transformative Artistic Life Facet

Cosplaying is a young artform that is found in today’s pop-culture. Cosplay is often considered more of a hobby and less than art, nevertheless that might be a disfiguration of the actual phenomenology. In cosplay, we find a central transitioning and transformation dynamic in which the self can, instead of owning, become an otherness. A crucial element, especially in the daily life of cosplayers, that is approached more in-depth by the outcomes of a conducted fieldwork and by the use of an autoethnographic case study. The confrontation with the fieldwork outcome and the Trajectory Equifinality Approach (TEA) allow us to gain a fundamental enhancement in the meaning and understanding of a Trajection in the Trajectory Equifinality Modeling. The essence of cosplaying as a transductive process and infinite paradoxical setting of irreversibility, a reversibility of experiences, is highlighted as a forgotten but fundamental characteristic in human beings’ daily life.
