Since the Defrenne v Sabena case of the Court of Justice of the European Union, gender equality has established itself as a fundamental principle of the EU, set out also in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and reinforced by Directive (EU) 2024/1385. Alongside the law, institutional communication helps to make equality a lived value, through cultural tools (such as the exhibition-performance “Pioniere. Le donne che hanno fatto l’Europa”) capable of engaging young people and strengthening the sense of European belonging. However, Eurostat data show that gaps in employment and pay persist, despite signs of progress in political representation and in the presence of women in strategic sectors. The challenge remains to ensure the full effectiveness of the principle of equality, bridging the gap between norms and reality.

Abstract
The challenge remains to ensure the full effectiveness of the principle of equality, bridging the gap between norms and reality.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
