A general analytic approach to the study of the dynamical properties of Josephson junctions in d.c. SQUIDs is developed. The periodic properties of the observable electrodynamic quantities are rigorously derived by means of elementary linear algebra concepts and the case of d.c. SQUIDs containing one or two π-junctions is discussed.
