Risk assessment of solid waste landfill presents some difficulties related both to the application of risk valuation steps and the identification of the risk assessment objective. These problems exist because, typically, the risk assessment procedure and its evolution have been conducted with regard to typical industrial contaminated sites. The paper, therefore, proposes a specific methodology for the application of risk assessment to solid waste landfill. Moreover, it investigates new alternative aims for the risk assessment related to the specific characteristics of solid waste landfill (SWL). To meet this objective the paper is subdivided in three parts. In the first part standard steps of a typical risk assessment procedure are briefly presented. In the second part the difficulties of SWL risk assessment are identified and analyzed, a specific methodology is proposed, while new aims for the risk analysis are suggested in addition to the well known. Finally, in the third part some numerical examples are developed, comparing SWL and chemicals release site risk assessment.

Abstract
Finally, in the third part some numerical examples are developed, comparing SWL and chemicals release site risk assessment.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
