An analytical approach to study normal penetration of a longitudinal plane wave into a doubly periodic array of slit-type obstacles is developed. By means of suitable assumptions on the physical and geometrical parameters, we arrive at explicit formulas for the relevant scattering parameters and elds. The underlying context is wave propagation through damaged (elastic) solids. Figures are given which reflect the peculiarities of propagation in such a structure.
