The aim of this paper is to analyse the success prospects of alternative technologies to standard networks to the curb, in the link (local loop) between final customer of telephone services and the big transmission networks for voice and data (section 1). After having established a methodology (section 2), based on interviews to privileged partners to determine the characteristics of the technologies and the relative products obtained (section 3), we go on to evaluate the set of technologies (section 4). In conclusion we draw up a series of considerations on the possibility that alternative technologies coexist and on the more suitable policies of regulations for innovative technologies (section 4 and 5).
