This paper describes a simple analytical model about the piston top ring lubrication. The model is referred to the open-end boundary condition hypothesis, with the assumption of minimum hydrodynamic pressure in the ring effective length equal to the saturation pressure. The analysis confirms that not all the ring length is involved in the hydrodynamic lubri-cation and the effective length is less than the 40-50% in some operating conditions, while the results are in agreement with the previous investigations of other Authors.

Abstract
This paper describes a simple analytical model about the piston top ring lubrication. The model is referred to the open-end boundary condition hypothesis, with the assumption of minimum hydrodynamic pressure in the ring effective length equal to the saturation pressure. The analysis confirms that not all the ring length is involved in the hydrodynamic lubri-cation and the effective length is less than the 40-50% in some operating conditions, while the results are in agreement with the previous investigations of other Authors.File in questo prodotto:
