In this paper the performances of polymeric nanocomposite resins for concrete protection were assessed. Two commercial products, a coating and a pore liner, were used as matrices for nanocomposite preparation with an organically modified layered montmorillonite. The protective properties of these treatments were evaluated through physical investigations (permeability to water vapor, salt crystallization cycles and contact angle) and aesthetic observations (colorimetric measurements). The results were related to the nanoparticle content which ranged from 2 to 6 weight percent. The study pointed out that the addition of nanoparticles has sensibly improved barrier properties to water vapour and the sulphates attack resistance.
