The transmitted text at Aesch. Pers. 97-9 is defended both on metrical and linguistic-exegetical grounds. The cola, rare but not unattested, are coherent with the ionic context. saínousa is semantically equivalent to Hermann’s potisaínousa. The subject of saínousa ... parágei is apáta theoû (from 93) and it is unnecessary to conjecture árkyas áta (Hermann) or arkystat' Áta (West). Hermann’s and West’s conjectures are not supported by the scholia. The net-metaphor is transparent so that arkystata does not need a genitive (árkuas átas Hartung, Horsfall).
