Poorly attended figure by Italian historiography of late twentieth century, Giulio Cesare d’Eugenio Braccini is notorious for have writing two interesting works about Vesuvius in Naples between 1631 and 1632. Naturalist, but also a political writer, the Abbot Braccini, shows essentially linked to moral and religious character of his time, as evidenced, among other things, from some translations from the Castilian language in the Tuskan expression of the late Counter Spanish. Trained in the shadow of the supreme magistrate of the Republic of Lucca, from his youth specific interest in the reality of Italian politics. For the second decades of the seventeenth century, then, thanks to his tenure at the court of Pope Paul V, Gregory XV and Urban VIII, felt gradually interpret within certain limits, the political event of his time, that of Italian of political life and the world around it and therefore the political pursued by Spanish in respect of a certain strategic areas of the time, such as the Valtellina. Political control of this geographical area was mountainous terrain of specific interest to Venetains, French and Spanish and, therefore, the political condition of the Valtellina and the historical developments related to it in relation to the tyranny of the Grisons, which led to “Sloughter of the Holy Valtellina”, in 1620, will be the subject of “Political discourse around the preparation, that make war on the occasion of the Valtellina”. Here the abbot Braccini will developer historical theme, but also interesting topics related to apologetic and libertine culture carefully, as you know, everything he could, to some extent, changing prospective of interpretation of history and pre-Christian and Christian political and at times, far beyond the topic of “Reasons of State”.
