We have studied the patterns of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and its five isoenzymes by elettrophoresis in different pathological conditions. The finding of an apparent association between HBeAg in serum and the presence of an extraband in the elettrophoretic LDH isoenzyme patterns seems to be of interest. The significance of this association is discussed with regard to laboratory diagnosis and prognosis of the infection by the Hepatitis B virus
