An investigation of the exts. from 2 starfishes of the genus Pisaster has led to the isolation of 3 new steroidal monoglycoside sulfates, designated pisasterosides A (I), B, and C, along with major amts. of the known asterosaponins (steroidal penta- and hexaglycoside sulfates) versicoside A, thornasteroside A, and marthasteroside A1. The structures of the new metabolites were detd. on the basis of spectral data; the stereochem. at C-24 of I, was detd. by comparison of the spectral data of the aglycon with those of model compds.
