A new sulfated asterosaponin (I), contg. the unprecedented (20R,22S)-5α-cholestra-9(11), 24(25)-diene-3β,6α,20,22-tetraol aglycon, was isolated from the title Pacific starfish. The sulfate residue is at C-3 and the oligosaccharide chain, β-D-fucopyranosyl-(1→2)-β-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1→4)-[β-D-quinovopyranosyl-(1→2)]-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1→3)-β-D-quinovopyranosyl, is at C-6.
