In a cytotoxicity test all 21 compds. influenced bovine fetal cells at 100 μg/mL, while the cells were unaffected at 1 μg/mL. In an antitumor test, 16 compds. were tested on 2 lymphoma cell lines. Inhibition of cell growth, at 5 ng/mL, was seen for 3 polyhydroxylated sterols in 1 cell line. Weak activity was seen in an antiviral test at 10 μg/mL.
