Sapogenins identified from A. aurantiacus were 3β,6α-dihydroxy-5α-pregn-9(11)-en-20-one (I), (17E)- and (17Z)-3β,6α-dihydroxy-5α-cholesta-9(11),17(20)-dien-23-one (II and III, resp.), (17E)- and (17Z)-3β,6α-dihydroxy-5α-cholesta-9(11),17(20),24-trien-23-one, 20(E)-3β,6α-dihydroxy-5α-cholesta-9(11),20(22)-dien-23-one (IV), and 17β-methyl-3β,6α-dihydroxy-18-nor-5α-cholesta-9(11),13-dien-23-one (V). Minor amts. of II, III, IV, and V were also identified in M. glacialis, in addn. to the previously isolated I, dihydromarthasterone, marthasterone, and 3β,6α-dihydroxy-5α-chol-9(11)-en-23-one.

Abstract
