Low-temperature polymerization of some conjugated diolefins in the presence of different homogeneous catalysts consisting of Group 4 metal compounds and methylaluminoxane has been investigated. The oxidation state of the Group 4 metal in the active species seems to be lower than 4. The ancillary ligands play a non negligible role in the polymerization of (Z)-1,3-pentadiene and 4-methyl-1,3-pentadiene.
