Antiplane scattering is studied in the context of an oblique incident plane wave in the presence of two (parallel) vertical cracks. In particular, the influence of these cracks on the oscillation of a free surface for various values of physical and geometrical parameters is investigated. The developed model is solved numerically for a wide range of the frequency parameter. The amplitude of the surface oscillations can be reduced by choosing appropriate values of the geometrical parameters, leading to possible solutions of problems of importance in seismology. Abstract
