Objectives:Bleaching techniques using carbamide peroxide are currently the techniques of choice to improve the aesthetics of discolored vital teeth. But often we have to deal with cases of cervical abrasion, V° and/or III° class restorations in composite resins prior to the whitening treatment. Aim of this study was to evaluate and to measure the color changes of composite resins subjected to bleaching techniques with carbamide peroxide (or urhea perhydrol). Methods:84 specimens of selected composite resin disks (3 cm. in diameter and 1 mm. in thickness)were cured, then stored in water at 37°C and subsequently submitted to 3 sessions of bleaching with carbamide peroxide at two concentrations (30% and 10%). Color changes were measured with a reflection spectrophotometer according to the CIEL*a*b* color scale before and after polymerization and after each single whitening step, using the software BYK-Gardner Auto QC v.3.01° referring to the CIEL*a*b* values to calculate the values defined as _E (color changes). Results: All the measurements were statistically evaluated with the ANOVA (table 1-13) Conclusions:At the conclusion of the measurements all the products tested showed color change either after polymerization and after each single application of the bleaching agent presenting significant differences between classes of composite, but not between the two concentrations of carbamide peroxide
