My purpose is to discuss the contributions of Cesare Arzelà to pedagogy in the context of the effort to establish a national system of education in the reunited Italy of the late nineteenth century. After a short biography, I give a sequential discussion of the contents of Treatise on elementary algebra for high-school students [(Italian), Monnier, Firenze, 1880]. Two other treatises of Arzelà [C. Arzelà and G. Ingrami, Rational arithmetic for secondary schools (Italian), Zanichelli, Bologna, 1894 C. Arzelà, Lectures on infinitesimal calculus given at the Royal University of Bologna (Italian), Monnier, Firenze, 1901] are also discussed.

Abstract
My purpose is to discuss the contributions of Cesare Arzelà to pedagogy in the context of the effort to establish a national system of education in the reunited Italy of the late nineteenth century. After a short biography, I give a sequential discussion of the contents of Treatise on elementary algebra for high-school students [(Italian), Monnier, Firenze, 1880]. Two other treatises of Arzelà [C. Arzelà and G. Ingrami, Rational arithmetic for secondary schools (Italian), Zanichelli, Bologna, 1894 C. Arzelà, Lectures on infinitesimal calculus given at the Royal University of Bologna (Italian), Monnier, Firenze, 1901] are also discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
