The essay analyses the concept of community according to Georges Bataille and in opposition to anti-modern theories of community such as we find in the past (Tönnies) and at present (Toni Negri and Ugo Mattei). According to Bataille the question is to combine the objective demand for freedom from the needs - marxist communism - with subjective demand for ecstasy and enjoyment - the surrealist experience. The essay criticizes the Thönnies’s difference between community and society and reflects upon Bataille’s concept of general economy and upon his interpretation of the Marshall Plan.
