This paper deals with Spanish teaching as a foreign language for Social Sciences students in Italy. CLIL allows to rethink foreign language learning/teaching as more strictly related to other subjects. Some aspects of CLIL may be gradually applied to a transdisciplinary curriculum. A spiral progression of contents, authentic materials and tasks related to students’ experiences not only in their academic life but also as citizens, makes learning more significant and stimulating. The implementation of this approach requires strengthening collaboration with university teachers of those subjects that can be learned by learning to use the Spanish language.

Abstract

This paper deals with Spanish teaching as a foreign language for Social Sciences students in Italy. CLIL allows to rethink foreign language learning/teaching as more strictly related to other subjects. Some aspects of CLIL may be gradually applied to a transdisciplinary curriculum. A spiral progression of contents, authentic materials and tasks related to students’ experiences not only in their academic life but also as citizens, makes learning more significant and stimulating. The implementation of this approach requires strengthening collaboration with university teachers of those subjects that can be learned by learning to use the Spanish language.
