This paper presents a new closed form solution for the Theory of Plastic Mechanism Control (TPMC), to enable solutions to be obtained by means of simple manual calculations The aim of the procedure, developed in the nineties for moment resisting frames and progressively extending to all main structural types, is to design column sections on each floor to avoid the development of undesired collapse mechanisms and consequently ensure the development of a global collapse mechanism. By way of an example of the simple practical application of TPMC, this paper presents the design of a multistorey frame whose yielding pattern is validated by pushover analysis and incremental dynamic analyses.

Abstract
This paper presents a new closed form solution for the Theory of Plastic Mechanism Control (TPMC), to enable solutions to be obtained by means of simple manual calculations The aim of the procedure, developed in the nineties for moment resisting frames and progressively extending to all main structural types, is to design column sections on each floor to avoid the development of undesired collapse mechanisms and consequently ensure the development of a global collapse mechanism. By way of an example of the simple practical application of TPMC, this paper presents the design of a multistorey frame whose yielding pattern is validated by pushover analysis and incremental dynamic analyses.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
