The paper gives a historical reconstruction of the discussions on God's Final Judgement among the German philosophers and theologians of the XVIIth Century. Starting from the relations between G. W. The Final Judgement becomes also a marginal doctrine, which can have only a "Symbolic" meaning ant this is true not only for Leibniz's followers as Wolff, but also for more orthodox theologians as Buddeus. Only Kant, in his late work "Das Ende aller Dinge" (1794) will take seriously the metaphysical and moral-anthropological issues involved in the doctrine of the Final Judgement, showing the weaknesses of the Leibniz-Wolffian solutions.

Abstract
The paper gives a historical reconstruction of the discussions on God's Final Judgement among the German philosophers and theologians of the XVIIth Century. Starting from the relations between G. W. Leibniz and the "Origenist" Theologian John Wilhelm Petersen (1649-1727), the paper shows the deep difficulties of conciliating the traditional views on God's Final Judgement with the typically modern view of moral life as a constant effort to obtain a growing perfection by an autonomous moral subject. The Final Judgement becomes also a marginal doctrine, which can have only a "Symbolic" meaning ant this is true not only for Leibniz's followers as Wolff, but also for more orthodox theologians as Buddeus. Only Kant, in his late work "Das Ende aller Dinge" (1794) will take seriously the metaphysical and moral-anthropological issues involved in the doctrine of the Final Judgement, showing the weaknesses of the Leibniz-Wolffian solutions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
