The paper presents the interactionist model of Anselm Strauss applied to chronic illness and diseases. Anselm Strauss shows the sufferers as able to negotiate their social status, so patients can participate to the medical diagnosis. Emphasizing the role of patients and their families, Strauss played an important role in shaping the cognitive identity of medical sociology, favouring not a physician-centric but a human-centric research patient oriented. This resulted also a new mode of looking at chronic illness increasingly connected to public interaction.

Abstract
The paper presents the interactionist model of Anselm Strauss applied to chronic illness and diseases. Anselm Strauss shows the sufferers as able to negotiate their social status, so patients can participate to the medical diagnosis. Emphasizing the role of patients and their families, Strauss played an important role in shaping the cognitive identity of medical sociology, favouring not a physician-centric but a human-centric research patient oriented. This resulted also a new mode of looking at chronic illness increasingly connected to public interaction.File in questo prodotto:
