According to some recent statistics inquiries Italy and Switzerland have got the lowest percentage of university students staying in reserved accommodation. In spite of the amount of university students which is a bit lower than in France and in Germany, Italy can only offer a quarter of lodgings. Despite the growing of enrollment just 4% of students stay in flats reserved for university students but most of them keep on living with their families. More lodgings available would increase students mobility, which is a relevant aspect of social dynamism. The Italian urban setting is featured by the architectural stratification of historic centres and the uncontrolled exploitation of the building ground for the centrifugal expansion of the outskirt. Nowadays in order to satisfy the growing demand for students lodgings it would be necessary to make a responsible use of resources, take care, repair, maintain and preserve the artistic heritage and do our best to get the best lodgings and at the same time to ensure the wellness of human settling. However we ought to focus on the fact that the culture of restoration and the culture of bearableness share ancient common origins and show mutual concurrence of objects, instruments and methods. From this context our work starts and develops aiming at defining any possible sceneries of processing and any projects of intervention on the existing building, finding out in some special building typologies featured by recurring building characteristics/distributive of spaces, as premises for streamlining and transformation of the contexts into modern university lodgings. Our work gets, though, a debate chance to understand the pros and cons of reconversion perspective to detect useful and reasonable sources of investment and finally think over any possible consequent strategies for concrete intervention.
