This study reports the CO2 soil flux recorded in February and May in an apricot orchard. Emissions were assessed throughout 8 chambers connected to a non-dispersive infra-red CO2 detector (PP System, model SBA-4). The mean daily CO2 fluxes fluctuated from approximately 0.22 (February) to 1.24 g m-2 h-1 (May). The spatial variability of CO2 lost by the “row” and the “inter-row” soil fraction and the influence of air temperature are discussed. This preliminary note highlights that investigations on soil CO2 emissions are urgent in order to construct a realistic carbon budget in such ecosystems.
