Abstract

Recent trends in the photovoltaic sector (PV) indicate strong growth in terms of capacity and production that is impacting positively on the process of decarbonisation of European energy system. The present paper aims to analyse the articulate framework for the management of “end of life” of photovoltaic panels, highlighting strong and weak points in the perspective of a shift towards a circular economy. Consequently, critical elements are identified, in order to promote productive paradigms for a ‘closed cycle’ economy, based on the enhancement of natural energy resources and on the reduction of waste.
