The paper examines one of the lamellae inscribed from the sanctuary of Zeus at Dodona (n. 113 of the corpus edited by E. Lhôte), already object of different interpretations. The text is established by autopsy and the paper proposes a new interpretation. Satyros asks the oracle if his vase (skyphos) was not loaded in Elea on the boat (keles) of Dorilaos, who sailed from Actium. The context seems to refer to local commerce and to the routes along the coasts of the Gulf of Ambrakia and Thesprotia, according to the model of the ‘down-the-line-trade’, with stops at local ports. Actium, and its port, was one of the focal points of this local commerce.

Abstract
Actium, and its port, was one of the focal points of this local commerce.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
