The paper examines the recent proposal that assigns the inscription Vetter 174, edited in 1789, to Velia and not to Buca, in the region of the Frentans, to which it was traditionally attributed. It is argued that the traditional place of provenance could be reliable, because the name ‘Castellammare della Buca’, perhaps corresponding to ‘Castellammare di Penna’, could be an erudite invention related to Punta Penna, where the ancient Buca was located. The place of provenance also is coherent both with the characteristics of the archaeological centre discovered at Punta Penna and with the function of electoral card, recently suggested for the object by G. Colonna.

Abstract
Colonna.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
