My cuerpo y sus voces

This essay analyzes selected collective testimonies by Uruguayan women, gathered and published following a call – promoted in 1997 by a group of former political prisoners – to establish literary workshops and give their gendered testimony on the years of the dictatorship. Thus, the essay illustrates the different stages in the process of construction of a collective memory and of the nation’s History, which must be nourished by memory in order to be shared by all people and not only represent the official History imposed by the dominant class.
