Abstract
The contribution illustrates the metric epigraph of the abbot Paschasius, deceased in the year 554, preserved in the parish church of S. Maria of Vetranto, near the abbey of Cava de’ Tirreni (Salerno-Southern Italy). In association with the text, engraved with care, there is a funerary and christological iconography: a great central cross and two candelabra, today lost. One Vita written during the 11th-12th century, has allowed a modern hagiograph to identify the dead person remembered by inscription as an abbot, defined ‘saint’ and ‘confessor’, who lived in Garganic Puglia.File in questo prodotto:
