The study aims to investigate the main problems of linguistic communication in the Germanic Middle Ages. In particular, we will address the problem of oral intercomprehension between speakers of ancient Germanic languages when, after the end of the Germanic linguistic and cultural unity (III-IV centuries), new historical and linguistic entities began to emerge: the Goths, the Saxons, the Anglo-Saxons, the Lombards, the Franks.
