Between 1848 and 1865 Viollet-le-Duc builds in Paris some residential buildings considered wrongly by critics as little worthy of attention because 'anonymous' stylistically and because too dissonant with respect to the theoretical reflections of the great protagonist of French architectural culture of the XIX century. These constructions are instead an indispensable source of information on the mentality, on the architectural and domestic culture, on the deep transformations of the technique, on the spatial and formal innovations, despite their interest cannot effectively be likened to the breath of the modernity of which will be filled the theoretical discourse that the great French rationalist will develop in his publications.
