According to Giosuè Carducci Felice Cavallotti could be considered «The last of the Italian Romantics». Poet, journalist, playwright, politician, Cavallotti was one of the founders of the «Lega della Democrazia» and a supporter of the General Giuseppe Garibaldi, who convinced him to be a deputy of the Italian Parliament from 1873 to 1898 when he tragically died in a duel. The poem Altra Italia sognavi! «A Giuseppe Garibaldi», is a poetical as well as a political manifesto: to witness his loyalty and gratitude towards the «General» and to share the same disappointment facing the failure of their political «dream».
