Abstract

In this paper a state of the art concerning innovative materials and technologies for the renovation of facades is presented. A case study of existing university building is then analyzed: thanks to innovative envelope systems, recladding based on sustainability and “mediaticity” paradigms is realized. This type of design gives the building characteristics of functional flexibility, i.e. the envelope is easily modifiable in time in relation to new standards or new user requirements. The methodology described is applicable for both the renovation of office, commercial, industrial buildings, and the re-use and functional conversion of abandoned buildings.
