This contribution is devoted to the category of -MENTE-derived adverbs in the Romance languages. The goal of this study is to discuss the role that these adverbs play in the method of learning new Romance languages called intercomprehension. In the first part of the contribution, after having highlighted the main tenets of this didactic method and described the ways -MENTE adverbs are presented in the manual EURom5, we show that the results gathered in a contrastive, corpus-based analysis of Italian, French and Spanish texts greatly improves our understanding of these forms. Specifically, our results help predicting the forms that will be easily understood or, vice versa, create difficulties to the learner of one or more Romance languages, in particular in deciphering a written journalistic text. In the second part of the study, we present a general, descriptive framework of the most important similarities and differences between -MENTE adverbs in Italian, French and Spanish. This framework is designed to facilitate the acquisition of receptive (reading) skills in several Romance languages at once.

Abstract
This framework is designed to facilitate the acquisition of receptive (reading) skills in several Romance languages at once.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
