This research article analyzes, through a qualitative methodology, the correlation between education and democracy, in order to glimpse the importance of these complex connections for the full development of a new, conscious and participating citizenship. The theoretical, conceptual and semantic richness that underlies these interrelations, is concretized through the comparison between the strategies in the field of democratic education for citizens considered in Europe and Latin America, which, in addition, makes it possible to stand out in the final results, despite of differences in the historical-political mold and the supranational representation model, similar interests in strengthening new educational paths that lead to the development of a new participatory citizenship.

Abstract

El presente artículo de investigación, analiza mediante una metodología cualitativa la correlación existente entre educación y democracia, con el fin de vislumbrar la importancia de estas complejas conexiones para el desarrollo pleno de una nueva ciudadanía, consciente y participante. La riqueza teórica, conceptual y semántica que subyace estas interrelaciones, se concreta a través de la comparación entre las estrategias en materia de educación democrática a la ciudadanía consideradas en Europa y América Latina, que, además, permite destacar en los resultados finales, a pesar de unas diferencias de molde histórico-político y del modelo de representación supranacional, análogos intereses en el fortalecimiento de nuevos caminos educativos que conduzcan al desarrollo de una nueva ciudadanía participativa.
