Sorokin, il “profeta anticonformista” dell’“altruismo universale”

Altruism as an object of study of sociology poses two questions: 1) it has undergone various events and this seems paradoxical if we think about the fact that the term was born with Auguste Comte, one of the founding fathers of the discipline; 2) Sorokin’s significant contribution to the development of these studies has been totally overlooked (at least) in European literature. It is therefore the aim of the present contribution, a) to underline the need for the social sciences and sociology, first of all, to re-appropriate this object of study, and b) to deepen the theories of the Russian-American sociologist on altruism through work carried out within the Harvard Research Center in Creative Altruism.

L’altruismo come oggetto di studio della sociologia pone due questioni: 1) ha subito alterne vicende e questo appare paradossale se si pensa al fatto che il termine nasce con Auguste Comte, uno dei padri fondatori della disciplina; 2) il significativo contributo allo sviluppo di questi studi dato da Sorokin è stato totalmente tralasciato (almeno) nella letteratura europea. È, quindi, intento del presente contributo, a) sottolineare la necessità che le scienze sociali e la sociologia, in primo luogo, si riapproprino di questo oggetto di studio, e b) approfondire le teorie del sociologo russo-americano sull’altruismo attraverso il lavoro svolto all’interno dell'Harvard Research Center in Creative Altruism.
