Davide Iodice, contemporary director graduated from the Silvio D'Amico Academy but with a rich experimental background, has deepened over the years numerous expressions of artistic research, as well as experiences on the edge of the theater that later became laboratory format adopted in various Italian and European cities. A careful reflection on the crisis of the contemporary and its social inequalities led the director on the one hand to focus on contexts that reflect the gravity of some social transformations and on the other to create an artistic-formative proposal. Among the possible exemples in this area, the experiences with a group of homeless people in the former public dormitory in Naples, today named First Reception Center, can be a particularly emblematic example of a theater that becomes an individual and community witness, artistic and political action about the present time. In this path we find the opening of the Elementary School of the Theater in the ancient building of the Ex Asilo Filangieri in Naples, a permanent workshop founded by Iodice to work on the territorial emergency, which welcomes some sessions of work with the homeless. The laboratory is the means and the end of these initiatives, reception ground for the possible inventions of heterogeneous groups of members with the aim of involving individuals who, at various levels, live in conditions of isolation and hardship. The aims to cross, through the case studies of two laboratories, the stages of the journey conducted by Iodice in the last decade within the reality of the public dormitory where social marginality is returned in the form of scenic poetry. The results, achieved through the side-by-side work between common people and theater professionals, are presented in the form of an open and available writing, an inclusive textuality that allows, over time, the integration of further passages such as to guarantee continuity and legitimacy to the operation. The works arised start from the use of theater as an instrument of community relationship, a scenic creation that draws on life, a sign of a present time that feeds inequalities, reflects institutional gaps, highlights social injustices, testifies to a painful and often invisible humanity.
